The fusion of the external and the internal spaces, of nature and architecture, is the essential attitude of Casa Pedernal.
Located in Pedregal de San Angel, a residential area, the architecture of the house develops the revolutionary construction concept that began in the 1950s in Mexico City, pursuing the integration of the surroundings with the structural and architectural elements.
The project is ruled by the basic principles of pure forms and functional spaces which result in a subtle harmony. In contrast to the hermetic street façade, a series of passages along a ramp that alternate different living spaces blended with the outside view, appear as soon as the entrance door is opened. The interior façade, flexible and almost completely transparent, allows the internal spaces to extend to the visual limits of the terrain, making the garden part of the same spaces.
The house merges the land’s volcanic rock with its architecture, using it as a structural and formal element. The materials used for the construction, fix color shades, reflect light, project finishing textures and complete the definite image of the project. The reuse of water is introduced in the systems of the house.
Simplicity is the core of the design, starting with the conceptual ideas and ending with the construction itself. It evokes a minimalist character where open, wide and empty volumes blend with nature creating and almost floating space.
