MEXICAN PAVILION

Client… Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) Location… México Area… 216 m² / 2,325 sq ft Date… 1996 Author… Adriana Monroy / Alejandro Mendlovic

In August 1996, the Ministry of Tourism organized an open competition in Mexico City for the design of a Pavilion for Mexico’s tourism sector.
The proposal presented was a pavilion design made of prefabricated modules that could be assembled, transported and kept in an efficient way. Basically, the pavilion was conformed by five areas: an access flanked by a water mirror, a reception, an office, a meeting room and an open area for exhibits with rotational and movable panels so as to organize in a dynamic way any type of exhibition. The pavilion’s perimeter was made up by translucid tempered glass modules that permitted the view to the interior exhibits. The glass modules were engraved with prehispanic motifs as well as with the name of the country they represented: Mexico.
