Client… Private Location… México DF Area… 12.85 m² / 138 ft² Date… 2009 Author… Adriana Monroy Staff… Javier Salinas

When designing an underground wine cellar there is no need to install any type of equipment to keep a certain temperature and humidity, essential to maintain the wine in optimum condition. Such is the case of this wine cellar built underneath the ground with materials like recycled brick, bringing about a space that needs no other special arrangements to maintain a functional and adequate environment, promoting an ecofriendly and sustainable space.
The wine cellar is covered by a curved vault towards one side with indirect light. The space is enveloped by red brick material that receives the steel sheets on which a series of cables are tensed. These cables serve as wine bottle holders making the look as if they were suspended in the air. The space modulation of the bottles permits various arrangements in diverse ways always following the pattern of the wine boxes.
The line of bottles which are placed at the precise height of the eyesight, inviting any person to read the labels, is the only line where the bottles are kept the other way around from the usual storage side.
The central piece is designed as a wine tasting table, as a support bar and as an area where more bottles can be stored and is made of recycled wood that comes from the same wine boxes that kept the original bottles.
